I say this to my classes all the damn time.
They are over there suffering through a hard ass workout – in a round or set that feels impossible – and I remind them that THIS will not be the hardest thing they do in the day.
Business is harder.
School is harder.
Relationships are harder.
Life is harder.
WE GET TO WORKOUT – Do you know how lucky you really are that you can??
I have been an entrepreneur now for over 15 years. FIFTEEN years of hustle, heartbreak and hard times. And honestly, I couldn’t be happier.
Well, that’s a fucking lie – I could have a few more stacks in the bank and a waiting list to get into my gym but otherwise, I am a happy person.
I am surrounded with the best people – clients, friends, family. My bills are paid every month and I am able to pay my staff and still have a little to put toward the business.
But let me be clear, it always hasn’t been this way.
There have been many days that I was ready to throw in the towel and walk away – just go back to working for someone else.
There have been many months where the pressure of running a business; being responsible for all of these people that I love so much is overwhelming and leaves me feeling like a failure.
There had been many years where I didn’t get paid – I lived on side jobs and thrift stores.
This life is hard. Harder than any fucking workout I could ever write.
BUT….
There are even more days when I get a text message from a client or member telling me how being part of BMF has changed their lives and how they are in better shape and healthier than ever.
There were even more months when it slowly became clear that we were successfully building systems that provided our clientele a top-notch experience – an experience that was life changing for them.
There were even more years of dedication, love, pride, more hustle and excitement about what we do and what we have built and how we are growing.
So, if you are reading this blog today – I want to dedicate it to you – to all of you who have come through our doors, brought your family to a holiday bootcamp, met us for a workout in the park, have dripped sweat (or tears) on our floors during a class, and even to those of you who have left us – BMF Fitness would not be where we are today without you all.
I guess the reason I am writing on this for my blog this week is because these past two weeks in particular have been very hard for me. I have felt extra pressure, I have been extra stressed, I have worried more about stupid shit over the past two weeks than I probably should have and I have had some realizations and revelations that have made me sad.
But –
I will keep hustling – keep going – keep building – and keep being excited about what we do because you all are counting on me. I won’t let you down. I won’t let my staff down. I won’t let myself down.
I have a vision for what BMF Fitness can be.
Yes, we are a gym – it’s not like we are gonna be some Fortune 500 Company and I certainly know that.
My vision for BMF is simple – that we impact the lives of every person who comes into our space – whether it be a tiny glimpse of kindness injected into their day or a major life transformation…every bit of it is rooted in an authentic wish to help people.
So, for every hard day, I try to find the good things amidst the mess. I often remind myself of how lucky I am to work alongside 6 of the best women I know. I remind myself for every day that is overcast in worry – my sunshine are all the incredible members who come to play every day. And on those days when I feel like I completely suck – at business, at life; at everything – I just go and workout – and then everything feels good again.
My whole point in writing today is to reinforce the notion that despite things being hard – you can still love it – you can still thrive in the chaos – you can still shine through the shit. You just have to keep going.
I encourage you to love yourself enough to see that … and to realize that YOU are the captain of your own ship – You can ultimately decide whether to be suffocated by the hard times or allow them to fill you with oxygen and motivation!
Now – go workout.
